Mary J. Blige opened the 2011 BET Awards with a medley performance that featured a surprise appearance by veteran soul singer Anita Baker.
Blige, dressed in a skintight white outfit, started with her ’90s hits ‘Mary Jane’ and ‘Real Love,’ as she strutted around the stage with a youthful energy.
The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul paused for a moment to introduce the next tune, saying “This song I’m about to sing — if it was never made, I would not be here tonight.” She then started singing Anita Baker’s ‘Caught Up in the Rapture’ before being joined onstage by none other than Baker herself. The two duetted on the remainder of the song, after which MJB called Baker her “angel.”
It was then time for a world premiere of the new song ‘It Ain’t Over Til It’s Over,’ during which she was accompanied by Jadakiss and DJ Khaled. The tune was a club banger that featured Jadakiss delivering a few rap verses and Khaled serving as hype man. The track is set to surface on Khaled’s upcoming album, ‘We the Best Forever.’
